BioVector® Ureaplasma urealyticum is an extremely small, cell-wall-deficient microorganism belonging to the class Mollicutes. It is a common commensal of the human urogenital tract but can become pathogenic, causing non-gonococcal urethritis, infertility, chorioamnionitis, and neonatal respiratory infections. Its most defining metabolic trait is the presence of highly active urease, which hydrolyzes urea to generate ammonia and create a proton motive force for energy. Being cell-wall-less, it is naturally resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics.

2. Culture Conditions
Medium: BioVector® Ureaplasma Medium (Medium 10), enriched with horse/bovine serum, urea, and growth supplements.
pH Optimization: Initial pH must be set to 6.0 ($\pm 0.2$).
Environment: 37°C in a 5% $CO_2$ incubator.
Growth Indicator: Phenol red in the medium shifts from yellow to pink/red as urease activity produces ammonia, raising the pH.
